Invest in Warhol, Picasso or hyped young artists and make money with them?


"Art as an investment" is a regular topic on the art market. Interest in art is currently on the rise again. Rising inflation in particular should encourage investors to focus more on investments in this segment.


The art market is small but beautiful. In 2021, it had an estimated total volume of around 65.1 billion US dollars. 47 percent of this was achieved at auctions, the remaining 53 percent mainly in the trade, i.e. at galleries or art dealers.

  • Art is a good addition to a portfolio, especially when inflation is rising.

  • But anyone entering the art market should be aware that art does not generate an intrinsic return and does not generate any ongoing income.

  • Investors should pay attention to proof of the authenticity of the artwork in all offers as well as protection against forgery or fraud.
